Exports, transhipments and transits of high-performance US-origin AI chips need a permit.
In force Effective immediately from 14 July 2025. MITI is reviewing adding the chips to the Strategic Items List.
What it does
The rule in brief
MITI announced that all exports, transhipments and transits of high-performance AI chips of US origin are subject to a Strategic Trade Permit, using the catch-all control in section 12 of the Strategic Trade Act 2010, which requires 30 days' notice before moving unlisted items where misuse is suspected.
