CRU connection policy for data centres
New data centres must bring matching dispatchable capacity and meet 80% of demand from new Irish renewables.
In force CRU decision CRU/2025236 of 12 December 2025; EirGrid process (DCCOPP v3) of 20 May 2026 applies to applications of 1 MVA or more.
What it does
The rule in brief
The CRU's Large Energy Users Connection Policy applies only to data centres. New connections must come with dispatchable generation or storage, on site or nearby, matching the requested import capacity and taking part in the wholesale market; must meet at least 80% of annual demand with additional renewable generation in Ireland (not already supported by REFIT, RESS or ORESS) within a six-year glide path; and are assessed according to whether the location is constrained. EirGrid's offer process notes that judicial review proceedings have been brought against the decision.
