Demand connections reform: Ofgem call for input
Ofgem's review of how demand, data centres above all, joins the network: firmer financial commitments first, then priority for strategic projects.
Consultation Call for input published 13 February 2026; responses closed 13 March 2026. Ofgem's next steps awaited.
What it does
The rule in brief
Ofgem set out three pillars for reforming demand connections: Curate, Plan and Connect. As a first phase it proposed stronger financial commitments to clear applications from non-viable data centres out of the demand queue, and mechanisms to prioritise strategic projects; a second phase would put in place a strategic plan for data centres. Ofgem records around 140 data centre projects (about 50 GW) in the demand queue, 71 of which (about 20 GW) report a final investment decision.
